Moral tie

The Spiders are usually long on moral victories, but the team came back against the Kan Jammers, only to be unable to find the twine on more than a handful of open-net chances, resulting in a tie after overtime.

With a full bench, the Spiders trekked to Aldrich for the only time this season, with thoughts of Buffalo Wild Wings after the game. The lone two fans (Ungaros) to make the trip had plenty of available seats for the early evening Sunday matchup with the Kan Jammers.

The game was a stalemate well into the second, with both teams getting chances, and both goalies standing on their heads.

A highlight-reel deflection in the crease on the Kan Jammers’ second power power play broke the tie.

And it took until halfway through the third for the Spiders to even it up, with a slot shot from Pappone off a dish from Kato down low (other assist to Ronneberg).

A late power play for the Spiders generated a more than a few chances, as the Spiders saw a half dozen nightmare-inducing open nets all night but couldn’t find the twine.

While the Spiders controlled the pace in OT, it was the Kan Jammers with the almost-go-ahead breakway with the runtime clock’s seconds ticking away. But a beautiful breakup by Jim Mara disrupted the chance, even if it would’ve resulted in a whistle, the buzzer sounded on OT and the Spiders skated away with their second point in the standings this fall.
