Spiders in not-so-Pleasant rout by Renegades

The Renegades shut down the Spiders’ offense … and defense tonight at St. Paul’s Pleasant Arena, running up a 9–1 victory.

It started out ugly, and went downhill from there. The Renegades’ offense controlled the game at both ends of the rink, racking up five unanswered goals into the second. The lone Spiders highlight came from Bruce Gustafson, who flipped a beautiful low-angle backhand past the goalie, getting the Spiders on the board. Assists by Jeremy Litton and an incredulous Mark “The Mad Accountant” Franklin, who has a goal and assist in two weeks, coming off a slight drought.

Despite the energy boost following the goal, the Renegades’ offense was back at it, capping off the game with four more goals in the third. Final: 9–1. Bringing back Pleasant memories of the Spiders of old!

Three penalties, all by the defense, Ryan Herman in the first for hooking, Michael Armel in the second for interference, and Jeremy Litton in the third, for tripping. Said the ref: “I know you didn’t mean to do it.”

Special thanks to Sarah Thuriot, who took the Spiders’ net tonight as sub goalie. She faced 31 shots, stopping 22 behind the Spiders’ porous defense. The Spiders put a whopping 14 shots on goal.
