Spiders avoid being Vikings

The winless Wildcats almost pulled a Detroit-like victory Sunday night.

While the Spiders scored early, with a Bjugstad-like goal by Berman right off the defenseman’s stick, and another by Krough early in the second, the Wildcats got a second wind, first off a goal, then tied it up off a rare-to-the-AHA penalty shot.

It took until partway through the third for the Spiders to regain the lead, with a very un-Vandenberghe-like goal by Cory for his first of the season.

The lone game referee gave the Wildcats one more chance on a late third-period power play. But we know how those go at C3. By the time the Wildcats called timeout with 1:26 to go, it didn’t take long for the Spiders to pot the empty netter, by Mettee from Krough.

Next up, the Spiders face the Troopers, next Sunday, 8:15 at SLP E. That franchise series sits even at 2–2 since the 2019–20 season.
