In the last game before the holiday break, the Spiders headed to the VMCC in Inver Grove to take on the new-to-C3 Black Ice, who sit in second place thanks to rostering the leading C3 scorer (and AHA titleholder for PIM, J. Knoll (45 PIM in 5 games played)). However, thanks to those PIM, he was there in coaching capacity only.
The Black Ice took an early lead, and with just a minute to go in the second, the dreaded two-goal lead. But Rich Elling got his first of the season to cut the lead.
It took until two minutes in regulation, but Pappone tied up the game to force overtime, where the only action was in the penalty box.
Final score: 2–2.
After the holiday break, the Spiders (or at least the Spiders who haven’t left town for the holidays) return to Richfield with the Arctic Wolves, Friday, Dec. 30. Puck drop at 9:30.
