Spiders prevail over Nighthawks 6–4
Feb. 12, 2006
The Spiders came out on top in our second matchup with the Nighthawks this season. It was a close game, with the game at a 4–4 tie late in the third period, ultimately broken by the go-ahead goal by Doug Thorson (from Bruce Gustafson) at 17:04 in the third period. In all, the Spiders played a great game, buoyed by goalkeeper Jeff “The Wall” Keacher, who made some amazing stops tonight, and getting the win stopping 29 out of 33 shots by the Nighthawks. Our thanks to Chris Trinh, who coached — and cheered! — us on from the bench.
Spiders’ Scoring highlights:
- First period
- Left wing Lee Martini from center Dave Schliesman and defenseman (and captain) Carlos Eberhardt, who really did make a beautiful pass just beyond the slot to break out the play.
- Second period
- Left wing Bruce Gustafson, from center Doug Thorson.
- Left wing Lee Martini, unassisted.
- Third period:
- Center Doug Thorson, unassisted.
- Center Doug Thorson from left wing Bruce Gustafson.
- Center Dave Schliesman from Lee Martini (who must’ve already been undressed for this assist, as he beat his previous locker room departure record by 37 seconds!).
There were actually no penalties (called, that is) this evening. Good thing, since we were all innocent anyway.
