Spiders make Yellow Team see Red
Sept. 30, 2011
In game 1 of the 2011 Fall Tournament, the Spiders (and friends) edged the Yellow Team 5–1.
After the Spiders (and friends) shook off the rust of the summer by stretching out on the BIG 3 Olympic ice, they were able to generate some highlight film-worthy goals, including a patented Pettengill wrister from the point, a prone Brandon Hofer lying in the crease channeling Neal Broten to find the twine, and an NBA-worthy glove-to-stick dribble by Yard. Topping the Top 5 was Dave Schuster, who demostrated he still has a nose for the net.
Stats from the AHA will be available soon, hopefully, unless they were misplaced again in the bowels of BIG. They’ll show Fransen stood tall in the net, stopping 19 of 20 shots his way, to the Spiders’ 22 on Yellow.
The night also saw the debut of three new Spiders from the upcoming 2011-12 Winter Season roster:
- Tim Byland
- Jon Pappone
- Andy Schwinn
Next up, a 2:45 matinee reprising the 2010–11 D1 Championship matchup, the Lumberjacks. On the same BIG 3 Olympic ice earlier Friday, the Lumberjacks lost 1–0 to the Nighthawks in the other L3 game.
