Wingmen crash, shut out by Lakers; Spiders, Maroons still in running

With each passing game, the playoff picture continues to unfold. And last night’s 3–0 upset of the Wingmen by the Lakers is no exception. Though the Lakers were eliminated from contention last weekend, they showed they can still play spoiler.

In these final days of the regular season, it appears the fourth and final playoff spot is down to whichever team decides to retain control of its own destiny:

  • The Fighting Ice Fish (21 pts.; 10–7–1), with just two games left (vs. the Chaos and Spiders).
  • The Spiders (17 pts.; 8–8–1), with three games remaining (Maroons, Knights and Ice Fish).
  • The Maroons (16 pts.; 8–9–1), with three games remaining (Spiders, Nighthawks, Lakers).

The Wingmen are still in it (17 pts.; 8–9–1), but with just two games remaining, have a lot of ice to make up. They face the Fighting Piranhas, who have locked second place, and the Diablos, who are at least assured a playoff berth, to close out their regular season.

The Spiders and Maroons face off tonight at Breck, with the outcome likely determining which team can catch the Ice Fish, and which can make tee-time reservations for the first week of April.
