Hockey starts tomorrow!

Forget the NHL. The winter really begins now that the 2008–09 AHA Winter Season has arrived.

The D1 Spiders will take the ice Sunday in a late-night matchup with the Lumberjacks.

It’s your first opportunity to see the revamped D1 Spiders squad in their fifth season of AHA action. The team will look considerably different as the roster has seen a number of changes over the summer, with eight new players and new goalkeeper, as well as new team captains: Brad Caron (C), Aaron Bedessem (AC) and Jeremy Litton (AC). But don’t worry, it’s sure to be the same old Spiders on the ice (though hopefully with slightly fewer penalty minutes and many fewer injuries).

First up, the Lumberjacks and their D1 All Star goalie Chad Jayasekera, with whom the Spiders went 0–2 last season, losing 6–1 and 7–4.

The puck drops Sunday night at 10:30 on the big ice at BIG. And to celebrate the Spiders’ fifth-anniversary season in the AHA, all paid-admission fans in attendance wearing red will receive a commemorative souvenir spider.
