Hellos and goodbyes
Oct. 12, 2008
As we approach the 2008–09 Winter Season, the Spiders will look considerably different this year as we say farewell to our Spider teammates with whom we won’t be lacing up this season:
- We bid adieu to the following founding Spiders, who’ve been with the team since its inception in 2004:
- Marc Berris, Mark Franklin and Bob Jensen – all will be joining the D2 Maroons.
- Carlos Eberhardt and Ted Samsel – Carlos has shortened his commute from the southern Canadian suburbs to play at the Super Rink Adult League; while Ted has announced his retirement from the AHA and will be sticking to the southern suburbs.
- Mike Montgomery and David Schaefer – will be seeing what the Spiders look like from the other end of the rink, as they join D1 teams in, as it turns out, the same division as the Spiders: Mike will lace up with the new D1 Lakers, and Dave with the Diablos.
- John Peterson – will be joining the collar-bone breakage alumni league.
- Mike Derer – will be serving out his detention after class.
The team won’t be the same without you.
Welcome new Spiders
And new Spiders donning the fabled Red and White this season:
- Luke Baker and Chris Flannery
- Both join the Spiders from Brad’s Piper Jaffray hockey development group.
- Rob Droullard, Chris Pettengill, Nick Ungaro
- All three join the Spiders from the D1 West Buccaneers.
- Jay Hilden and Cory Vandenberghe
- Mike Olson
And finally, minding the Spiders’ net: Amber Obermoller. Considering she has goalie pads that matched our jerseys … it was nothing short of destiny.
Welcome to the team!
