Spiders Amped Up For Playoffs

With yesterday’s nail-biting win over the Renegades, the Spiders clinched the C2 North regular season title and the top seed in pool B for the playoffs. The complete pools are:

The Spiders are very familiar with the Muskies as they split two games this season. The Muskies beat the Spiders 5-3 in January and the Spiders got revenge with a 5-1 win three weeks ago. The Royals are mostly unknown but a quick look at the season stats indicate a team with strong goaltending (2.00 GAA with a .915 save percentage) and balanced scoring (10 players with 10+ points). Sounds a lot like the Spiders… The final opponent for the Spiders are the Roadrunners. The only meeting between these teams took place in January 2009 as the Roadrunners beat the Spiders 8-5.

Tiebreakers

The top team in each pool advances to the single-elimination phase of the tournament. The top second-place team also advances with the tie-breakers as follows:

1. Most points in pool play
2. Wins
3. Head-to-head record between teams in pool play (Applicable only if equal amount of games have been played between tied teams)
4. Goal differential for all pool play games (6 goals per game max)
5. Fewest goals allowed in all pool play games
6. Fewest minor penalties in all pool play games
7. Fewest total penalty minutes in all pool play games
8. First goal scored in pool play games
9. Coin toss

(Note: If three teams are tied, once a team is determined as the higher seed, the tie breaker reverts to step 1 of the criteria between two remaining teams if necessary.)
