Spiders get their groove back

The Spiders got back to their old style of play tonight in Bloomington, they stayed out of the box, and they found the back of the net 6 times. The scoring was balanced, with all three forward lines and the defense putting up points.

Veteran Spiders net minder Chad Sande stopped 31 of 34 shots, giving up an early knuckle ball from the point, but settled in quickly to shut down the Zephyrs. At the press conference after the game, Spiders GM Dave Schliesman was quoted as saying, “I don’t like to point fingers at this point in the season, but if Maietta doesn’t bring the pucks, we can’t warm up our goalie, and if our goalie isn’t warmed up.… well, you know the rest of the story.”

The Spiders pulled themselves back into 4th place, and are just two points out of second place in the highly competitive C2 West division. A victory over next week’s opponent (the 2–5 Thunder Chickens) could prove to be the springboard into a successful second half of the season, and a strong playoff seed with home-ice advantage.

A quick look at the C2 West statistics page shows the Spiders’ own Shawn Tromizcak among the league’s scoring leaders with 8 goals. Tromizcak was quoted at the post game press conference as saying, “I might be able to put a few more in the back of the net, but during warm-ups we don’t have any pucks, so I can’t really practice my shooting, has anybody seen Maietta?”
