National Weather Services Issues Blizzard Warning
Feb. 8, 2009
In a hard-fought battle, the Spiders drop a heartbreaker to the Blizzard 5-3. The Spiders lost a tough game tonight at New Hope.
The crowd of 3 watched the Spiders jump to a 3-1 lead after the first period. Bruce Gustafson started the game off with a goal on an assist by Greg Lindlsey. Captain Dave Schliesman scored on a Dino Ciccarelli-like tip in, off a pass from Doug Thorson.
The last goal the Spiders would score was from Jim Maietta on an assist again from the playmaker Doug Thorson.
The Spiders were outshot in the first, but finished the last two periods controlling the game. Step-in Coach Brian Dow, (yes the Brian DL Dow) was behind the bench calling plays for the Spiders. The Spiders had great scoring chanced thru out the game, but were unable to capitalize. The Spiders carried the lead the whole game until 3:55 of the third when the Blizzard tied the game at three.
Not 40 seconds later did the Blizzard take the lead. This was a huge blow to the Spiders as they worked hard and failed to capitalize on chances. With less than two minutes left in the game Coach Dow called for a time out. Here was the Spiders chance. Puck in the Blizzard zone, face-off won, pulled back to point, shot save, rebound save. Scrum in the corner results in Blizzard getting the puck and eventually the game clincher with an open net. Blizzard win 5-3.
The Spiders did welcome back John Trentor for his first game of the year.
