Spiders beat Yellow Jackets 5-3 in best showing of the season
Dec. 9, 2018
Opportunistic finishing, strong goaltending, and some lucky bounces propelled the Spiders to a 5-3 win over the high-powered Yellow Jackets.
Justin Stone knocked in a rebound with the Spiders on the man advantage to take a 1-0 lead to the first intermission. Cody Buckalew added to the lead early in the second. The Yellow Jackets closed within a goal before Jason Yancey answered back immediately to regain the two-goal cushion. Yancey was just getting started as he made it 4-1 just minutes later.
The Yellow Jackets entered the game scoring nearly six goals per game and their offense started rolling in the third period. Early in the third the Jackets again closed within a goal before Mike Saucerman Knocked home a loose puck to give the Spiders a 5-2 lead.
Brian Dow stood tall in the Spider net as the Jackets upped the pressure. A few key saves, a couple helpers from the posts, and a couple missed open nets helped the Spiders run down the clock. The Yellow Jackets closed to 5-3 with just under six minutes left but they would get no closer.
The win moves the Spiders to 2-4-1.
