River Pirates dominate Spiders 5-1
Jan. 20, 2018
The Spiders got crushed by the River Pirates in a game that can’t be forgotten soon enough. The River Pirates took a 5-0 lead before Paul Fitch gave the Spiders a consolation goal.
The loss drops the Spiders to 6-3-1-0 at the midpoint of the season. The B3 East division is tight at the top with the Taz Devils, Spitfires Green, and Battle Cats all tied with 14 points. The Spiders and Wild are tied for 4th with 13 points with the Northern Horde just a point behind. If the playoffs started today the Spiders would be on the outside looking in as they lose the tiebreaker for 4th against the Wild based on penalty minutes – 80 for the Spiders and 72 for the Wild.
The Spiders face off with the Battle Cats on Sunday, January 28th. This is important game, primarily ion the standings, but the Spiders also need a win to even the head-to-head tiebreaker with the Battle Cats. The Battle Cats topped the Spiders in 3-1 in the season opener with their goalie making 33 saves.
