Spiders Drop the Season Opener 6-2
Oct. 26, 2008
Thank God it’s the Pre-season, or at least that is a little bit how the Spiders played tonight in the season opener. The Spiders frequently got caught up in their own web too often in this 6–2 loss.
The game started with a quick goal for the Blizzards, but the Spiders quickly fought back and notched one for themselves. The first ended with the Blizzard ahead 3–2.
The second period might have been the Spiders best period skating and best chances of scoring, with a 5 on 3. All 8 of the Spiders legs just couldn’t keep up with the fast and quick Blizzard
Newcomers to the Spiders did have a good game. Goaltender Brian Dow, Mark Bortnem and Tim Stalpes all had a nice game. Of course, the Spiders were just happy to not be facing goaltender Dow in the opposing net, given the success he had shutting down the Spiders last year.
In the end, the Blizzard was one of the best teams the Spiders have faced in the last 2 years. With a little harder skating, some good passing and a few crashes into the corners and the Spiders will ensure their opponents will get caught in the Spider web.
