Spiders take revenge on Piranhas

Spiders were seeking a jump start for their latest slide. The team entered the game with a win, but it was the first win in the last eight games. The slide could be largely attributed to continual short benches. Line shake ups were in order looking to generate chemistry that could carry them into the playoffs.

The roster was full at 13 skaters but late healthy scratch trimmed it to 12. The energy and flow in this game was different than the past eight and the line changes were creating a new buzz. Spiders controlled the game for nearly the entire game and with the exception of a couple of breakdowns in the defensive end, the score sheet would reflect that dominance when the final horn sounded.

After skating to a scoreless draw in the first period, Bedessem started things off by notching his fourth of the season. The Piranhas were able to grind out a tying goal to end the second period at a 1-1 draw.

The third period was where all the excitement was found. In a matter of 1:10 the Spiders found themselves in an unusual spot of leading by two. Murray used the back door deflection from Hilden threading pass and Buckalew demonstrated his speed and sniper ability by scoring on a breakaway. It was that two goal cushion that would carry them the victory.

The Piranhas would trade goals with the hometown team that brought the score to a final of 5-4. Hilden and Vandenberghe were the grinders that kept the Spiders in front. Two-time sub Justin Geijer played another solid game accumulating 27 saves.

Spiders take on the Battle Cats in a quick turnaround this Tuesday at 9:30. The run for the playoffs will most like require a win-out scenario with help from other teams in the division.
