Spiders (finally) win!

61 days since their last taste of victory, the Spiders finally got back into the win column on Saturday night on the back of a career night from Derk Jacobson.

The Spiders started quickly with as Jacobson beat the Yellow Jackets goalie from the top of the circle off a pass from Cory Vandenberghe. Minutes later Shawn Tromiczak caught the Jackets on a change with a pass to spring Joe Long who scored on the breakaway.

Derk Jacobson added to his total late in the first with the Spiders on the penalty kill. Jacobson skated in on goal with a Yellow Jacket defender on his back and beat the goaltender to the near post. As the clock wound down on the opening period Ryan Wilson added a goal to extend the Spider lead to 4-0.

A 4-0 lead through the first period would normally be safe but the Spiders made it interesting. The Yellow Jackets turned the momentum in their favor in the second period and clawed a goal back. Another early in the third had the Spider fan contingent of 0 uneasy. With only 2:06 left the Jackets scored again to close within one goal. The Spiders closed the game out with Ryan Wilson adding an empty netter to send the Spiders to a much needed W.

The win moves the Spiders to 4-7-1 on the season.
