Spiders fall to Yellow Jackets 7-3
Nov. 15, 2015
Good news – No Spiders were ejected from the game! And that’s about it…
The Yellow Jackets beat the Spiders for the first time in their history on Friday with a comprehensive 7-3 beat down.
The Spiders scored early in the first as Matt Adelmann skated around a Jacket defenseman and beat the goalie cleanly. The Yellow Jackets answered back with three goals late in the first and early in the second.
Cory Vandenberghe gave the Spiders some hope as he closed the gap to 3-2 but the Yellow Jackets piled it on from there. A late Shawn Tromiczak goal added to the total but it was too little, too late as the Spiders fell to the Yellow Jackets 7-3
It was a bad loss for the Spiders as they entered the game at 2-0 with the Jackets coming in at 0-2. No phase of the game worked for the Spiders as they were completely outplayed with the Yellow Jackets goalie standing tall to stop the few good chances that were to be had.
Still, the Spiders sit near the top of the B3 West division with a 2-1 record. And the wins over the Wild and Chaos are looking good as both of those teams also sit at 2-1.
One highlight for the Spiders was the return of Chris Stalpes. Chris hadn’t suited up for the Spiders since the 2013-14 season in which he scored 9 goals and added 9 assists, good for 5th in scoring. But a defection from the Spiders roster and an unfortunate early end to Chris’ son’s hockey season led to a reunion. Chris barely missed scoring a goal in his return in classic Chris fashion – find the hole in the opponent’s defense and let loose a quick one-timer.
Next up for the Spiders is a Thanksgiving appetizer against the Mutiny on Monday, November 23rd at the Minnetonka Ice Arena.
