Spiders dominated again, lose 7-1 to Ice Hogs
Dec. 17, 2013
After the 10-3 beat down by the Lakers last week, the joke during warm ups on Sunday was to, “Keep ‘em in the single digits this week.” So if we’re looking for positives, the Spiders were successful in that regard. But for the third week in a row the Spiders had little success in keeping the puck out of their own net and went down in defeat.
The Ice Hogs raced out to a four goal lead before Shawn Tromiczak finally broke through for the Spiders. The second half of the game saw the Spiders displaying some competency but occasional defensive breakdowns and a hot goaltender for the Ice Hogs meant the Spiders never had a chance at a comeback. Ice Hogs goaltender A. Plumm, well on her way to playing herself out of the B3 level, saved 32 of 33 shots to improve her save percentage to 95.09% on the season.
Final score – 7-1.
The loss drops the Spiders to 2-4 on the season. The Spiders knew the move to B3 would be tough and it would take some time to adjust. The hope was to make it through the first half of the season in striking distance of the playoff slots and improve from there. This makes the next two games against the 2-4 Grizzlies and 0-6 Gators extremely critical.
The Spiders and Grizzlies will face off in a Christmas primer on December 21st at 8:15pm at SLP W.
