Spiders/Spiders Sunday Double-Header in Bloomington tonight
Dec. 23, 2012
Both Spiders squads take to the big BIG 3 ice tonight in a pre-holiday double-header.
First up, at 8:45 p.m., the first-place C1 Spiders (5–1–1) take on the new-to-C1 Puck Hounds, continuing the rivalry that started two seasons ago with the D1/C3 version of the Puck Hounds.
After the Zamboni, at 10:30, the fifth-place C3 Spiders (4–4) have a rematch with the first-place C3 champion Moose (7–1), and will look to end their two-game skid.
The last time the C3 Spiders played on the Olympic-sized BIG 3 sheet was Saturday, April 14, against none other than the Puck Hounds, in the third round-robin game of the 2011–12 playoffs. That game, the second of a Saturday double-header, was played on nearly the worst ice conditions of the Spiders’ franchise thanks to the April thaw and benign neglect of the BIG crew the night before, saw the Spiders dig an early 3–0 hole, but rally to lose 4–3 to the Hounds. Sound familiar?
Lifetime vs. the Puck Hounds, the C3 squad has gone 3–1–1. And now the C1 Spiders take over the rivalry.
The last time the C1 Spiders skated the Olympic sheet was the same day, Saturday, April 14, in the C2 semi-final that night, where they lost 4–2 to the eventual non-champion Zephyrs.
Lifetime on the BIG 3 sheet:
- The C2/C1 squad: 5–1.
- The D2/D1/C3 squad: 4–4–1
- Total: 9–5–2
Head to Bloomington tonight to see Double!
