Spider playoff run ends with 4-2 loss to the Zephyrs
April 15, 2012
Early goals by Matt Adelmann and Doug Thorson staked the Spiders to a 2-0 lead as they dominated the first period of play.
Early in the second period, the Spiders started visibly slowing down. It seems four games in four days, including two in 12 hours, started to get to the Spiders.
The Zephyrs closed the gap to 2-1 on a shot from between the circles. Minutes later, a centering pass blindly flung up the middle during a rush deflected off skates in front and past netminder Brian Dow to tie the game at 2-2. Late in the third period, a misplay of a puck behind the net gave the Zephyrs another easy goal and a 3-2 lead.
The Spiders pulled goaltender Brian Dow with two minutes to play but The Zephyrs collected a loose puck and added an empty net goal to seal the game at 4-2.
The Zephyrs advance to the championship where they will face off against the Admirals. The Spiders meanwhile move to the golfing and boating phase of the season.
