Halfway through the first period, it looked like the rout was on. A slapper from the point from Chris Stalpes, a breakaway by Jay Hilden (thanks to a great pass by Aaron Bedessem), and a power play goal from Jim Maietta put the Spiders up 3-0. Another goal late in the period by Brian Armagost extended the lead to 4-0.
The Yellow Jacket captain must have made quite an inspirational speech during the intermission as the Yellow Jackets decided to participate in the game. The Yellow Jackets scored four of the next five goals to close the score to 5-4.
The Spiders regained momentum early in the third period, scoring four quick goals to go up 8-4. The teams each added one more goal before the end of the game to make the final score 9-5.
The Spiders are entering a critical stretch of the season with upcoming games against the 2ndplace Zephyrs, playoff-contending Northern Horde, and defending champion M’s.
