Spiders drowned by Lakers 7-0
Jan. 20, 2008
The Spiders were humbled by the league-leading Lakers tonight at the St. Louis Park arena. The Spiders were outshot 49 to 18 by the relentless Lakers. League-leading scorer R. Locher secured his position outside of next year’s C2 league by scoring the Lakers final four goals in a game that was pretty well out of hand when he turned up the volume. Locher was quoted after the game saying, “I’m all about the stats baby…. I don’t care if the game was well in hand, this is all about me and my league-leading stats.” Locher’s sidekicks D. Trongard and M. Jensen also had respectable nights at 2 points apiece to keep them afloat in the scoring leader category.
Had it not been for solid Spider defense and goaltending, the score could have easily been more lopsided. Spiders D1 blueliner Jeremy Litton got the nod tonight, and played outstanding defense along with substitute defensemen Doug Thorson. Josh Cagle and Chris Stalpes were also stupendous, clearing out Laker rush after rush. Chad Sande couldn’t be reached for comment after the game as he was too tired to address the media.
Spiders Captain Dave Schliesman addressed the media’s question regarding the whereabouts of Shawn Tromiczak between periods of the game with this comment. “I can’t speak directly to the question right now, but let’s just say this; Tromiczak was scheduled to play, he’s not on injured reserved, Litton was called up from the D1 Spiders...you might want to check the waiver wire.” Media contacts confirmed Tromiczak was on the active roster for tonight’s game, but not on the bench or the press box, rumors have him involved in a four-way deal for two new centers and a scoring wing, more on this in tomorrow’s notes.
The Spiders continue to hover between 4th and 5th place spot in the C2 East standings; as a reminder, the top 4 teams make the playoffs. Tonight’s attendance, 4 (all girlfriends or groupies of the mullet brothers two man referee crew).
