The Spitfires Green continued their march through the B3 division with a 5-2 win over the Spiders to claim the championship.
The Spiders had defeated the Spitfires 8-6 just weeks earlier and hoped to repeat the same formula — score early and keep shooting. Instead it was the Spitfires who got on the board first with a goal less than three minutes in. Matt Adelmann evened the score late in the first but the Spitfires answered immediately to take a 2-1 lead through the first intermission.
The Spitfires broke the game open with two second period goals as they continued to dominate possession. The Spitfires made it 5-1 late in the third period before Christian Peterson added his fifth goal of the playoffs to make the final score 5-2.
Before the playoffs even began, the Spitfires were told they would be moving up to B2 next season. They certainly looked like a B2 team, outshooting the Spiders 49-28.
The Spiders drop to 0-3 in AHA title games. In 2010, the Royals spanked the Spiders 4-0 in the C2 final. Then in 2013, the Spiders dropped a 1-0 heartbreaker to the Fighting Piranhas in the final season at C1.
