Spiders Notch Chiefs in Close Win

After a strong victory against the fading Landsharks, the Spiders notched a win against the Chiefs after a tie earlier in the season. The game proved that the parity in this season's play is greater than ever with the bottom ranked Chiefs giving the top ranked Spiders a run for their money.

The Spiders began the game strong, continuing this year's hallmark defense first style of play. The Chiefs didn't register their first shot on goal for the first 12 minutes of the game while the Spiders peppered the Chiefs goalie as he stood on his head. In the end, after a hard fought game the Spiders' goals by Justin Stone to redirect a shot into the top of the net and a goal by Christian Peterson to extend his point streak to 5 games was enough to top the Chiefs in 2-1 victory.

The Spiders held the Chiefs to a franchise low of 17 shots since moving to the B3 tier. The Spiders have the lowest shots against and the largest goal differential. This combined with Brian Dow's Vezina like performance, has put the Spiders' goalie in the league's top goalie position with league leading 3.31 GAA.

Next up the Spiders play the rival Wild. A win puts some needed distance between the Spiders and the Wild, who are looking to get into the last playoff spot. A Spiders loss puts the Wild two points away from the Spiders in the standings. A must win situation takes place in the shadow of the downtown Minneapolis skyline on Thursday night at Parade Ice Garden.
