Spiders cruise to 7-2 win over Landsharks
Feb. 16, 2017
The Spiders showed little signs of rust after a three week break, skating to a dominating 7-2 win over the Landsharks.
Matt Adelmann opened the scoring early in the first period but, despite constant pressure, the Spiders couldn’t add to the advantage. Tom Prausa and Jason Yancey scored early in the second to extend the lead to 3-0 and give the Spiders some breathing room. The Landsharks broke the seal to close to 3-1 but their defensive frailties continued to give the Spiders opportunities.
Christian Peterson scored his eighth goal of the year with a nifty backhander on the ultra-rare 3-on-0 breakaway. Minutes later Josh Cagle added to the lead with a rebound off a Joe Long shot on a 3-on-1 odd man rush. The third period was more Spider dominance with Cagle and Yancey both netting their second goals of the game. Final score: 7-2.
Brian Dow made 20 saves on 22 shots for the W, his second straight game with a save percentage at 90% or greater. Finals shots were 43 for the Spiders and only 22 for the Landsharks. The last time the Spiders were outshot was on December 4th against the Chiefs.
…and segway into preview of the upcoming game… next up for the Spiders is a rematch with the Chiefs on Thursday, February 16th at 9:50pm at Woog 1. While the Chiefs are in last place the previous meeting with the Spiders was am intense, contentious affair featuring 15 combined penalties and finishing in a 3-3 tie. Goaltender Brian Dow made numerous big saves to preserve the tie in a game that the Spiders probably should have lost.
