Chiefs Attempt to Chop Spiders, Spiders Bite Back
Dec. 4, 2016
The Spiders were burning the midnight oil with the 10:30pm puck drop at BIG arena on Sunday evening. The game started a little slow as both teams were finding their legs. Unfortunately it was the Chiefs who drew first blood halfway in the first period with a coast to coast run by the Chiefs number 8. Late in the first number 8 put another goal in as a pass-around play gave him a clean shot.
The second period started strong with the Spiders putting plenty of shots on net, but it was the perfect pass from Cagle to Murray in the neutral zone that gave Murray a clear path to the goal with an upper-corner short o make it a one goal deficit.
The Chief apparently did not take their patch lightly as they were truly inspired by Slap Shot with physical and a bit of "after the play" activity going on. The Chiefs had 5 penalties with the Spiders frustrated 2 penalties in the second made it an intense game. With the Chiefs in the box, Buckalew was able to put away the tiebreaker goal with an asset to Adelman.
Six minutes into the third period Stone was able to put in the go-ahead goal from a pass behind the net from Bedessem. The Spiders had their chances in the third period to get a 2 point lead, but two penalties hurt them in the long run. A lost face-off in the defensive zone for the Spiders gave the Chiefs a scoring chance they capitalized on while on the power play to tie up the game.
The clock stuck midnight and and overtime began with both teams looking for the victory. The quick 5 minute OT gave way for three penalties; two for the chiefs and one on the Spiders. The Spiders were not able to capitalize on the man advantage of the last 36 seconds, so the game ended with a 3-3 tie. This is the second tie of the season, but they still walk away with a point.
