Spiders doomed by mid-game collapse...twice

Bad news – Two demoralizing losses in four days leads to a lack of motivation to write.

Good news – The games were so similar the stories can be the same.

Friday, February 27th <> Gators 7 – Spiders 1

After an evenly played start to the game an 8 minute stretch of the 2nd period doomed the Spiders. A 1-1 tie turned into a 7-1 deficit by the end of the 2nd period.

The Spiders actually outshot the Gators 42-38 but poor defensive coverage and mental lapses allowed too many Gator scoring opportunities. Brian Dow played much better than the numbers would indicate, keeping the score from becoming even more lopsided.

Ryan Wilson scored for the Spiders; his second consecutive game with a goal.

The loss drops the Spiders to 6-8-1 and 1½ games behind the 4th place Loons for the final playoff spot.

Tuesday, March 3rd <> Mutiny 8 – Spiders 3

After an evenly played start to the game a 10 minute stretch spanning the 2nd and 3rd periods doomed the Spiders. A 3-2 deficit turned into a 7-3 deficit by the middle of the 3rd period.

The Spiders nearly matched the Mutiny in shots on goal 32-33 but poor defensive coverage and mental lapses allowed too many Mutiny scoring opportunities. Brian Dow played much better than the numbers would indicate, keeping the score from becoming even more lopsided.

Jay Hilden, Shawn Tromiczak, and Matt Adelmann scored for the Spiders.

The loss drops the Spiders to 6-9-1 and 2 ½ games behind the 4th place Loons for the final playoff spot. The Spiders are now 2-6-1 in 2015.

Next up for the reeling Spiders is a must-win matchup with the Loons on Sunday, March 10th. The Spiders will make the long drive to Wakota arena in South St. Paul for a 7:10pm puck drop.
