Spiders to B3 East division for 2014-15 season
Oct. 6, 2014
The annual AHA fall tournament was held this weekend. In the equivalent of the B3 division the Battle Cats, soon to be moving to the B2 tier, took the title with a 4-1 win over the Ice Hogs.
In addition, divisions were drawn for the upcoming season. The B3 division breakdown, along with last year’s record:
B3 East
- Spiders (10-10-0-0)
- Mutiny (9-11-0-0)
- Ice Hogs (13-5-2-0)
- Mighty Northern (4-15-0-1)
- Minnesota Loons (New team?)
- Gators (4-15-1-0)
- Wild (6-10-2-2)
- Taz Devils (15-4-1-0 in B2)
B3 West
- Chiefs (4-14-1-1)
- Phantoms (12-6-1-1)
- Saints (11-7-2-0)
- Barons (13-6-1-0 in B2)
- Yellow Jackets (4-16-0-0)
- Venom (3-17-0-0 in B2)
- Fighting Piranhas (8-11-0-1 or 9-11-0-0)
- Landsharks (16-1-2-1)
- Royals (2-16-0-2)
The AHA announced preliminary tiers in July but the final tier assignments have several surprises.
- The Minnesota Loons appear to be a new team.
- The Taz Devils were promoted to B2 before the 2013-14 season and were reported to be promoted to B1 for the upcoming season. It’s assumed this B3 Taz Devils team is made of players who didn’t feel comfortable making the jump to B1.
- The Barons were also promoted to B2 before the 2013-14 season. They had a successful season at B2 so this team is likely some players from that team taking a step back to B3.
- Venom Red went 3-17-0-0 in B2 so this is likely that team dropping down a level.
- Only one Fighting Piranhas team in B3. Last season there were two — Fighting Piranhas Black and Fighting Piranhas Blue. It’s unclear which team this is at B3.
- The Landsharks were promoted to B2 for the upcoming season so the team likely split with the B3 team made up of players who didn’t want to make the jump.
