Spiders hammer Grizzlies 7-2
March 6, 2014
A short handed goal by Geoff Kuppe early in the third period broke open a close game, propelling the Spiders to a critical 7-2 win over the Grizzlies. TK Kramasz did an admirable job subbing in net for the IR-bound Brian Dow, making 34 saves.
Mark Bortnem and Chris Stalpes scored early in the first before the Grizzlies closed to 2-1. Doug Thorson scored for the second game in a row before the Grizzlies again closed within a goal late in the second period.
Kuppe’s tally early in the third was followed by Mike Townsend and Mark Bortnem again before Shawn Tromiczak capped the scoring with a sick wrap around just before the clock hit zero.
The win improves the Spiders to an even 8-8-0 for the season and keeps their slim playoff hopes alive. Next up for the Spiders are the Gators, who upset the Spiders 5-4 earlier in the season.
