BREAKING NEWS!! Spiders name Dow assistant captain

(AP) -- In an exclusive interview, C1 Spider general manager and captain Dave Schliesman has confirmed that goaltender Brian Dow has been awarded an assistant captain "A" for the upcoming season. According to Schliesman, discussions with assistant captains Josh Cagle and Jim Maietta began shortly after last season ended but the final decision was reached within the last week.

"Brian Dow has been an integral part of the organization dating back to 2008. We felt his commitment and dedication should be officially recognized," said Schliesman. "And he's been barking at the refs for years so we thought we'd make it official."

Schliesman also added that he hasn't informed Dow of the honor yet but he fully expects Dow to be excited enough to get the "A" sewn on before the season opener.
