Spiders playoff schedule coming into focus...
March 18, 2012
As the AHA regular season winds down, the playoff schedule is becoming slightly clearer for the Spiders. With the AHA’s mid-season decision to move the M’s to the C1 division for the playoffs the playoff race in the C2 North division has been rather anti-climactic as the Zephyrs, Spiders, Yellow Jackets, and Warriors locked in playoff bids a few weeks ago.
With the Zephyrs 5-1*** win over the Yellow Jackets and the Spiders 9-3 win over the Chaos Black on Saturday, even the division placement is almost set. The Warriors are locked into 4th with the Yellow Jackets in 3rd.
The only drama is for the 1st and 2nd positions as the Zephyrs currently sit at 14-4-1-0 for 29 points while the Spiders are at 13-4-2-0 for 28 points. The Spiders hold the tiebreaker as they are 1-1-0 against the Zephyrs this season.
The Spiders need to make up one point during the last weekend with the Spiders playing the 3rd place Yellow Jackets and the Zephyrs facing off against the 4th place Warriors.
The C2 East and C2 West divisions are both a mess as the only team locked into any position is the Rack Attack as the C2 East champions.
Spiders playoff schedule options are:
Spiders 1st in C2 North
- Thursday, April 12th 9:20pm @ Wakota 1 vs. Warriors

*** The author caught the 3rd period of the Zephyrs/Yellow Jacket game. Unless he was suffering from a yet-to-be-diagnosed stroke, the final score was actually 5-3. With the score at 3-3, the Yellow Jackets scored the apparent go-ahead goal late in the 3rd before the goal was waved off because the Zephyrs goaltender kicked the net off the moorings with not a soul around him. The Zephyrs scored two late goals with a puck deflected by the Yellow Jackets and an empty netter to make the final 5-3.
