Spiders prepped for 2011–12 season

Six months after the 2010–11 season came to a close with a tough 3–2 loss to the Thunder Chickens in the playoffs, the Spiders can’t wait for another crack at a C2 championship. The season gets underway on Saturday, October 29 against the Chaos Black.

The Spiders will take the ice with nearly the same roster as last season. Mark Bortnem and Doug Thorson take a step back to sub status. Former subs Cody Yard and Jeremy Litton will not return as Cody has work conflicts and Jeremy is dedicating himself to the C3 Spiders as they make a run at another championship.

Cory Vandenberghe is a 3-year veteran of the D1 (now C3) Spiders but will take on the challenge of also skating with the C2 squad as well. Jim Green will also be skating with the Spiders. Dedicated Spiders fans may recognize Jim as the second-leading scorer from the Spiders 2007–08 season, their first in C2. Jim currently resides in Sacramento, CA but will be in Minnesota frequently for work and will skate as much as possible.

This is a veteran Spiders team with 13 skaters returning for the 5th season with the squad and 17 from the 2008–09 C2 runner-up team. As always, a championship is the goal. The Spiders will get a big test early in the season as they face off against the defending champion M’s on Sunday, November 27.
